Alcest – Spiritual Instinct

Alcest have been consistent in the quality of their albums throughout their discography. Spiritual Instinct is another solid release. I think I might like it more than Kodama, Alcest for me was at their greatest with Shelter though. I know a lot of fans didn’t like it because it wasn’t “metal,” but the older I get the less of the metal stuff I care to hear. I wish Alcest would get rid of the blast beats and tremolo picking power chords altogether, the black vocals are fine, but the majority of musical passages where the blast beats and tremolo are present (and unaccompanied by vocals) sound redundant. Other than that, Niege and Winterhalter do a good job with the album and they are one of the few bands that I still like and haven’t dropped the ball album after album like Opeth has been doing.
